Grand Cape Mount County – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has announced plans to establish a regional office in Grand Cape Mount County. This was confirmed during a successful meeting between the EPA and the County’s Superintendent, Foday Kiatamba, where discussions focused on securing land for the new office.
The EPA team, led by Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Urey-Yarkpawolo, emphasized the importance of having a regional office in the western part of Liberia.
According to Dr. Urey-Yarkpawolo, the new office will make it easier for the EPA to monitor the many companies operating in the region, reducing the need for frequent travels from Monrovia.
“We already have the funding for this project, which we raised ourselves since we took office. This is not donated money,” Dr. Urey-Yarkpawolo explained. “As soon as the land is identified and secured, our engineers will begin construction right away.”
Dr. Urey-Yarkpawolo also noted that having a regional office would greatly improve the EPA’s ability to respond quickly to environmental issues in the area, ensuring that companies follow proper environmental guidelines.
Superintendent Foday Kiatamba welcomed the EPA’s visit and expressed his excitement about the project. He assured the EPA team that once the Mayor of Robertsport returns, they will start looking for a suitable piece of land for the office.
“We are very happy to have the EPA bringing this project to Grand Cape Mount,” Kiatamba said. “My office will work closely with the EPA to make sure everything moves forward smoothly.”
The new regional office is expected to strengthen the EPA’s presence in the western region, allowing for better oversight and quicker response to environmental concerns. The construction of the office will begin as soon as the land is secured, marking a big step forward in the EPA’s efforts to decentralize its services.
At the moment, the EPA Grand Cape Mount County team is hosted at the Grand Cape Mount County Service Center in Robertsport City.
